Assignments and Grading Scheme

Assignments

Reading/Writing Journal (on personal WordPress site) 10 x 3% = 30%

Blogs throughout the semester will be graded on a 1 to 10 point scale, with 10 being outstanding. The rubric involves up to 3 points for a clear thesis, up to 4 points for good use of specifics from the text(s) being discussed, and 3 points for good editing. Late blogs will not be accepted, to be fair to everyone, since we’ll be going over them in class.

DH assignments: 3 x 8.33% = 25%

In each of your digital assignments you will be graded according to the following rubric:

Rhetorical Awareness: Argument considers audience, message, and medium (artifact and essay): i.e. Storytelling and accessibility for a public audience on campus and in the region ….25%

Stance and Support: Central claim is duly supported by evidence drawn from the core text, from readings, and from sample projects (essay); i.e.  Evidence of original research 20%

Organization: Clear structure demonstrates presentation of research question, critical analysis through method, and moves logically from introduction to conclusion (artifact and essay).  Clarity of final presentation to the class 15%

Conventions: Competent adherence to usage standards; skillful integration of core text and secondary sources – including citation (artifact and essay) 20%

Design for Medium: Well-chosen design features enhance audience motivation and participation (artifact) 20%

Video Essay/Podcasting

Textual editing

Each Digital Artifact will be accompanied by a blog post

  • In each module you will write a blog post that reflects on the process you have gone through to learn the tool, learn what it can and cannot do, what worked and what did not

Final DH Project  25%

Presentation and Snap Talk of final project 10%

Active participation 10%

 

Team final project due during exam, presentation that previews final project based on rubric (snap talk), followed by final presentation, and final project due
